There was a Provincial Health Department established back in 1971 when Balochistan had been made into a province after ending the One Unit. Prior to this, there were three subdivisions (Quetta, Kalat, and Sibi). As of 1971, there were only six districts but they have been gradually expanded since then. Subsequently, the Government decided to split up the area into six divisions; each with its own Head of Division taking care of health matters on their respective basis; but now provincial areas will be handled by Provincial District Officers within each district- that way these services would hopefully never miss anyone. Currently, there are 29 functional districts within the provincial boundaries and people can expect a lot more growth in the near future- we are looking forward to it!
